Voice of the Sheep

bleatings of an amateur reformational credobaptistic theologian

  • To the Shepherd

But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise. - Ps. 79:13

WHY AM I DOING THIS?: As much as an amateur blogger and theologian can do this...I want to make you think. I want you to know what you believe and why you believe it. And I want you to believe what you do - not because Mommy and Daddy believed it - but because it is the truth as contained in the Scriptures. I pray that God will use this blog and the resources and links provided here to grow its readers (including me) in the grace and knowledge of Christ. I pray this knowledge will result in a life of obedience that flows - not from fear or a desire to gain God's favor - but from a gratitude of knowing the truth about Who your Creator is, and what your Creator has done for you.

    • @TheIndyWilsons You would probably benefit from a book titled Beyond Tithes and Offerings. Proportional giving is the biblical method. Not % 1 hour ago
    • @TheIndyWilsons So, when Paul said 'give' and 'set aside' we are to add '10%' into those verses? 1 hour ago
    • @TheIndyWilsons Is there some overlap n functions? Yes. But th main duty of the priesthood was 2 be the go-between b/t man and God. No more. 1 hour ago

When Is Sharing Stealing?

Posted by Brian Thornton on October 9, 2007

cable

Here are four scenarios. You be the judge.

Scenario ONE -

I have a great newly released CD featuring the lyrics of old hymns put to new music, and I make a free copy of it and give it to my Mom and Dad.

Scenario TWO -

My friends introduced me to an online peer-to-peer file sharing program where I can download great newly released music and videos for free, and share some of my own collection as well.

Scenario THREE -

My internet connection has been pretty slow…that is until one of my neighbors upgraded to high-speed DSL. He has unsecured WiFi in his house and, what luck, I am able to pick up his signal! Now I can surf at blazing speeds, too! I sure would like to thank him, but I don’t even know who he is.

Scenario FOUR -

Cable is getting too expensive for me, but my next door neighbor has it. He has graciously run a line from his house to mine to allow me to continue receiving the benefits of a cable subscription…but at only half the cost. This is perfectly okay to do, since he and I will split the cost of his monthly bill.

Do any of these not  fall in the category of stealing? Why or why not? Are any of these legal, but still should be considered as stealing? Are there any circumstances that would make any of these scenarios okay to do? Is it a violation of the 8th Commandment to receive services (which are normally rendered in exchange for payment) without actually paying for those services? I know I don’t usually get many comments on this site, but I hope to hear from some of you on these.

31 Days of Praying for Your Pastor – Day 9

Posted by Brian Thornton on October 9, 2007

DAY 9:
Pray that God will build a hedge of protection around your pastor’s marriage, and that he and his wife will be aware of the potential for any improper relationships. Pray that their family time will be protected.

So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. Matt. 19:6
