But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise. - Ps. 79:13

WHY AM I DOING THIS?: As much as an amateur blogger and theologian can do this...I want to make you think. I want you to know what you believe and why you believe it. And I want you to believe what you do - not because Mommy and Daddy believed it - but because it is the truth as contained in the Scriptures. I pray that God will use this blog and the resources and links provided here to grow its readers (including me) in the grace and knowledge of Christ. I pray this knowledge will result in a life of obedience that flows - not from fear or a desire to gain God's favor - but from a gratitude of knowing the truth about Who your Creator is, and what your Creator has done for you.

Got Skype?

Posted by Brian Thornton on October 11, 2007

I admit that sometimes (okay, oftentimes) I am way behind the times when it comes toskype new technology. That used to not be the case when I was working in the I.T. industry and knew about all the latest computers and gizmos and gadgets before they ever hit the stores. That era in my life is long gone, so now I have to rely on what other people tell me about what is out there.

Now, most of you are probably already familiar with the internet service called Skype, butsnipe I was just made aware of it recently. This is not to be confused with Snipe, which is hunted quite regularly here in the deep south (if you’ve never been Snipe hunting, then you’ve never really been hunting – it requires no weapons, just a flashlight and a sack). I remember hearing of Skype several months back, but never really thought much about it. But, while spending time with some friends from church one Sunday evening, we saw how neat and valuable this service can be. Our friends showed us how Skype not only allows you to talk to anyone anywhere in the world, but that you can also see anyone anywhere in the world…for free!

Yep, you heard me…absolutely free (well, once you have an inexpensive web cam and microphone, that is). But, as long as you call other people who are also on Skype, there is no charge whatsoever (there is a charge for calling landlines and cell phones). And if you don’t want to do the video portion of it, you can still just hook up a microphone and call anyone in the world for free who also has a Skype account.

So, if you have a Skype account, or if you plan to go get one now, and you want to give us a call, we would love to hear from you! Our Skype-name is fivesolasfamily. Once you download the software from their website and get everything set up, drop us a line sometime. We think it would be cool to be able to actually talk to some of our brothers and sisters in Christ, rather than just converse via a keyboard.

We could talk about all sorts of things, including why you have never been on a Snipe hunt!

31 Days of Praying for Your Pastor – Day 11

Posted by Brian Thornton on October 11, 2007

DAY 11:
Pray that God will bring godly friends and encouragers to your pastor and his family, to strengthen them for the ministry and provide meaningful fellowship and times of rest.

I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. They all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. But you know Timothy’s proven worth, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel. Phil. 2:19-23
