bleatings of an amateur reformational credobaptistic theologian

  • To the Shepherd

But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise. - Ps. 79:13

WHY AM I DOING THIS?: As much as an amateur blogger and theologian can do this...I want to make you think. I want you to know what you believe and why you believe it. And I want you to believe what you do - not because Mommy and Daddy believed it - but because it is the truth as contained in the Scriptures. I pray that God will use this blog and the resources and links provided here to grow its readers (including me) in the grace and knowledge of Christ. I pray this knowledge will result in a life of obedience that flows - not from fear or a desire to gain God's favor - but from a gratitude of knowing the truth about Who your Creator is, and what your Creator has done for you.

Are You in Good Hands?

Posted by Brian Thornton on October 29, 2007

From the mouth (and hopefully the heart) of my six-year-old son, Caleb:

An Allstate commercial came on (you know, the ones with David Palmer, former president of the US on the series 24), in which a simulated crash is usually shown and the host asks, “Are you in good hands?”.

Caleb walks into the kitchen halfway talking to himself and halfway asking out loud, “Good hands? Doesn’t he know we’re in God’s hands? Doesn’t he know God is in control?”

Out of the mouth of babes!

Which Came First, the Sign or the Church?

Posted by Brian Thornton on October 29, 2007

I just saw a very funny thing and had to share it. While driving around today I noticed on a piece of property a brand spankin’ new church sign…but with no church attached! The land has been in development for some time, and I knew it would eventually host a “Christian” Church (Disciples of Christ), but it just struck me funny today when I drove past the site and saw only a new church sign with no church building. Not even a foundation yet for the building…just a fancy new sign out in front of a bunch of dirt.

I guess they want to start broadcasting their pithy slogans even before they start meeting there as a congregation.

31 Days of Praying for Your Pastor – Day 29

Posted by Brian Thornton on October 29, 2007

DAY 29:
Pray that your pastor will be a man of faith and passionate love for God, not giving in to worries, fears, or an uptight and anxious spirit.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Prov. 3:5-6
