My Lord I Did Not Choose You

This rich hymn put to contemporary music by Matthew Smith flies in the face of today’s evangelical mindset which places man’s acceptance (or choice) above God’s sovereign plan of redemption for those whom He chooses. God’s merciful choice of those who are saved is what needs to be emphasized in today’s churches, not the shameful and man-exalting view of God’s regenerating work of salvation which says, “Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it.” This self-centered view of man’s ability to secure his own destiny makes God’s ‘gift’ of salvation something that can be denied, and I challenge anyone to demonstrate this belief from Scripture.

If you don’t believe what is contained here, then I would ask you to ask yourself if you can support your position from the Word and not from rhetoric from man. May God bless you and reveal to you His truths concerning who He is…and who you are in relation to Him.

Q&A of the Week: The Decrees of God

Question 11: What are the decrees of God?

Answer: The decrees of God are his eternal purpose, according to the counsel of his will, whereby for his own glory, he has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass.

Scripture: Ephesians 1:11; Romans 11:36; Daniel 4:35; Isaiah 46:10; Psalm 115:3; Amos 3:6.

Comment: You might shorten it to: “God’s decrees are his own plans for history. And they always happen.” His purpose for the world is eternal because there never was a time when he didn’t know what he was going to do. His purpose accords with the counsel of HIS will–that is he did not consult anyone else. He thought it ALL up. All plans were made in order to maximize the display of his glory. NOTHING falls outside the decrees of God.
