Are You Credo? Then You Must Be Arminian!
Posted by Brian Thornton on May 3, 2008
NOTE to my Paedo brothers and sisters in Christ…please take this post as tongue-in-cheek, and with a smile.
I must confess that I was more than a little amused at some of the accusations leveled against me in the baptism discussion that has been going on for the last few days. Apparently, if you are not a Paedo-Baptist, several things automatically are known about your theology. The following seem to be the results (or what goes along with) being a Credo-Baptist:
- You are not a true Calvinist
- You are Arminian
- You are Platonic (sorry, but that one is over my head…I only have a bachelor’s degree)
- You deny total depravity
- You do not understand how God works in salvation
- You believe faith precedes regeneration
- You must evangelize your children (Amen!)
The other one I was waiting for but never heard is that, if you are Credo, then you are also Dispensational!
So, sorry to my fellow Credo brothers and sisters out there who also love the doctrines of grace, but you apparently can’t have it both ways. You can’t love the tenets of Reformed Theology AND follow what God explicitly commanded in Scripture concerning baptism.

Heck I have been called a Donatist and a papist in recent weeks by my baby dunkin’ brothers!
So much for Together for the Gospel, coming in 2010 Together for the Belgic Confession.

Brian,
I am somewhat familiar with your blog, having linked to it a while back on mine. My good Baptist brother and fellow contributor on my blog put me on to it. I am a paedo fellow myself and former Baptist (credo) pastor.
I like what I see. But let me assure you that no credible paedobaptist brother would agree with this post (I know it is in jest). Many excellent Calvinists are credos. Of course not all credos are Calvinists.
But we can surely have this in-house debate on baptism and then go have a beer (or coffee if need be).
Thanks for your contributions to the blogosphere.

Hi Les,
Thanks for stopping by and visiting this blog. Honestly, I am amazed that anyone would come here a second time.
I appreciate that you understand this post was in jest. It was a response to the various labels and conclusions that my brother in Christ and former fellow church member Glenn has made in his various comments.
I too know full well that there are many Credo Calvinists, and am very thankful that that is possible, as I am one, regardless of what Glenn says.
